DHLA

Free Radicals

Today the major causes of death are chronic degenerative diseases such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes. Oxidative stress is thought to be the underlying cause of most of these diseases. As we breathe in oxygen, it is sent by red blood cells to every cell in the body. At times, highly unstable molecules known as "free radicals" are formed and a chain reaction creates more and more of these highly destructive mutations. Antioxidant nutrients must be available to build the body's defense and protect it against these free radicals.

DHLA (dihydrolipoic acid) is unique as an antioxidant due to its spectacular effectiveness in quenching every known free radical that occurs in living tissue, including both fat and water-soluble tissues. No other antioxidant has this incredible capability. DHLA has unequalled potential as a highly effective therapeutic agent in clinical conditions associated with free radical damage such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative illnesses.

The World's First! Recently, the world's first stabilized form of DHLA was created by Robert Marshall, PhD, CCN. This has been verified by independent laboratory testing. Stabilized DHLA offers a significant and reliable source of DHLA, never before available. Until recently (2003), DHLA in a stabilized form could only be obtained indirectly through consuming ALA (alpha lipoic acid) which in turn, was converted by the body into small amounts of DHLA. However, this process did not deliver a significant or reliable supply of DHLA. Research studies have attempted to measure the effect of DHLA on cellular tissue using indirect methods based on ALA consumption. As a result, DHLA is known to be a powerful electron donor to other compounds. Vitamin C, vitamin E, CoQ10, and glutathione are all regenerated by DHLA.

Synthetic vs. "Life Within" Once Living Sources

ALA, R-lipoic acid or DHLA, which are derived from synthetic sources, can never match natural-source counterparts in the ability to sustain and repair the DNA of the cell. Only nutrients derived from once living sources are capable of upgrading cellular DNA, according to quantum physics researcher and expert, Dr. Fritz-Albert Popp. On the other hand, synthetic-source nutrients may provide initial cellular benefits, but over time, they act to accelerate the degeneration of DNA, ending in earlier cell death.

Chronic degenerative inflammatory diseases are not diseases of old age. Their beginnings are evident in children, teens and young adults. Libraries are full of empirical research evidence showing the disastrous effects of free radicals on the cells of the body. Sound scientific studies now show that DHLA can significantly reverse cell destruction by free radicals, inhibit inflammatory agents believed to contribute to heart disease and cancer, slow or prevent LDL oxidation, slow or prevent atherosclerosis, and extend the average life span of mammals, including humans. However, the body is not able to produce enough DHLA on its own to neutralize all of the free radicals.

In his book, The Antioxidant Revolution, Dr. Kenneth Cooper emphasizes that excessive exercise is a major cause of free radicals. Other causes are emotional stress, pollutants in air and water, toxic chemicals that enter our bodies through what we put on it and in it, fatty foods, excessive sunlight and cigarette smoke. The body has a great ability to heal itself if we provide the nutritional building blocks. DHLA is a great step in the right direction. Clinical research studies have shown that DHLA has spectacular physiological benefits. Unlike ALA and R-LA, DHLA has shown that it also has the ability to induce repair of DNA strand breaks!

Clinical research by Dr. Robert Marshall has shown that the newly available natural-source, stabilized DHLA is both safe and effective for general use including individuals with chronic illness and neurodegenerative disease. Dr. Marshall has observed various positive effects of the oral administration of stabilized DHLA in his office, including reducing chronic fatigue, reducing sinus pain, improving poor memory, and improving poor nerve function.

Studies on Pub Med from the National Library of Medicine show that DHLA prevents heart damage, has significant anti-inflammatory properties, rapidly reduces LDL (the "bad" cholesterol), prevents and treats diabetic complications and increases glucose uptake.

Research from the Linus Pauling Institute reports that while conventional antioxidants can prevent free radical damage, DHLA is actually able to help repair free radical damage, and while other antioxidants like vitamin C can neutralize a free radical, the vitamin C then becomes oxidized itself, and is not able to neutralize other free radicals. DHLA is capable of regeneration, forming an antioxidant network!

The Real Reason For Weight Gain

Inside cells are cellular organs called "mitochondria" that oxidize dietary fuels (proteins, fats and carbohydrates) to a usable form of energy. Further research from The Linus Pauling Institute has shown that free radicals, if not neutralized by antioxidants, may damage the mitochondria over time, causing them to function less efficiently and to generate more damaging free radicals in a self-perpetuating cycle. Experts, such as Dr. Tory Hagen, writing in the Fall/Winter 2000 LPI Newsletter, feel that this deterioration in mitochondrial function is directly related to weight gain, pre-mature aging and age-related diseases.

Edward R. Rosick, DO, MPH, MS writes in the July, 2004, Life Extension Magazine, "Alpha-lipoic acid has been used for decades in Germany to prevent and treat diabetes induced nerve damage. There are no reports of toxicity from alpha-lipoic acid overdose in humans."

This is the perfect winning combination toward a healthier and longer life: remarkable effectiveness and complete safety.
