pH Balance: The 12 Second Test That Can Save Your Life!
The Importance of pH in the Quest for Great Health

By Dr. Robert Marshall

Any farmer can tell you that when the pH of the soil is too acidic or too alkaline, crops will become sickly or die. And people with aquariums know that when the pH is off in the water, the fish will die. The same importance of pH is found in the human body; however, most individuals have no idea what it is or how to regulate it. There is a simple 12 second test that anyone can do each day to check the pH of the body. All that is required is a roll of pH test paper.

There is a simple 12 second test that anyone can do each day to check the pH of the body. All that is required is a roll of pH test paper.

If the body's tissue pH becomes acidic, it becomes harder and harder for the body to uptake other nutrients, such as minerals, vitamins, and phytonutrients from foods and herbs. The key is to reestablish the proper acid/alkaline balance of your body. An acidic pH creates a hostile internal environment, like a raging storm, making the body struggle to get the nutrients it needs. The more acid you become, the worse you will feel. As the body's pH becomes less acid (as reflected by a test of the first morning urine pH of 6.4 to 7.0, using pH test paper), it is like a happy, spring day. Your body can then easily assimilate minerals that were very difficult to absorb at a more acidic pH.

The Gate Keeper

Think of the coral minerals as the “gatekeeper.” As the minerals begin to correct the deep-seated acid/alkaline imbalance in the body, the more alkaline pH can bring about (like a gatekeeper letting more nutrients through) the uptake of other nutrients in food or supplements. Without proper pH, the best quality food and the best quality supplements will not give the cells of the body the nutrients they need.

Every cancer researcher knows that tumor forms of cancer cannot survive in an alkaline environment. If a cancer tumor is put in a beaker with an alkaline media, the cancer will die in 3 hours. In the alkali, there is oxygen. As the body's pH drops, less and less oxygen is available to tissues.

Small changes of 0.1 to 0.2 in pH can mean ten to twenty times more oxygen availability. Ionized calcium is the key mineral which keeps the pH near ideal. Your pH shows you the big picture of your body's health: your urine pH (from your first morning urination before eating or drinking anything) is an accurate reflection of your body's tissue pH. The more acid your urine pH, the worse you feel. As you move closer to the 7.0 alkaline/acid balance, your health can dramatically improve.

So What's The Big Deal?

Remember, each 0.1 of pH that changes in your first morning urine pH means a 10-fold increase in oxygen! So if you started with a sick pH of 5.5 or below (the norm in the U.S.), and went to 7.0, you would have a 150-fold increase in tissue oxygen. Harmful virus and bacteria thrive in an acid (low-oxygen) environment. Otto Warburg won the Nobel Prize in 1932 for proving that cancer needs an anaerobic (oxygen-poor) environment in order to thrive.

When you dramatically increase the pH of your body's tissues, harmful pathogens cannot survive. When you move into the “feel-good” balanced range, with much more oxygen going to your brain, just imagine:

how much greater energy you will have,
how much less sleep you will need,
how much more flexible you will feel,
how much faster disease symptoms will decrease,
how much more mentally alive and active you will feel.

But Beware!

A urine pH over 7.0 can be a warning sign that the pH of your body has become abnormally altered. A pH over 8.0 is a serious danger signal, showing that the body has desperately recruited emergency supplies of ammonia as a last resort to buffer the extreme acid conditions of the body. This is most often due to a longstanding highly acid state which has depleted the body's mineral reserves, especially calcium. This is also why urine can have a distinctive smell of ammonia.

How To Measure Your pH

To find out your pH, all you need is a roll of pH test paper so you can test your first morning urine. Collect a small sample of your first morning urine in a clean cup.

Tear off a small piece of the pH tape, then dip it into your urine sample. Match the color of the tape to the color chart on the roll. The roll has a number scale to show you what the color represents. It is just that easy.

It takes about 12 seconds, and this test can truly save your life! The cost is about one cent per test. It is the least expensive medical test you will ever take, and it will give you the most important information of your life. Your urine pH directly reflects the acid/alkaline balance of the body. Do the pH test each morning for a new foundation for great health.

"What Do I Need?"

Since few people eat enough of the alkalinizing foods (fresh organic raw fruits and vegetables), and usually eat acidic foods (meats, dairy, sweets, soft drinks, and processed foods), we recommend that you get out of the “health wipeout trench” and start maximizing your nutrient intake by developing a balanced pH with high quality supplements: coral calcium, greens, and essential fatty acids.

Supplement # 1: Coral Calcium

The highest quality of coral calcium is from Japan. All forms of calcium must be ionized in your digestion before they can be absorbed. Since coral minerals are already highly ionized, they are easily absorbed, even by the elderly with poor digestion. There are over 2500 species of coral. Only one, from Okinawa, Japan, has an ideal 2/1 ratio of calcium to magnesium, which is necessary for proper assimilation of calcium. Vitamin D is also necessary for calcium to be adequately absorbed. Since most people do not consume an adequate amount of vitamin D in their diets, or receive enough sunlight outside, especially in the winter, look for coral calcium that includes vitamin D from a natural living source such as mushroom extracts of reishi, coriolus, or herecium. Avoid synthetic versions of vitamin D.

Supplement # 2: Greens

Ever notice that when a dog or cat gets sick, they go into the yard and eat grass! A proper mixture of grasses can contain every known nutrient the body needs. This includes literally every biological vitamin and mineral in their food-grade forms in addition to superior nutraceutical phytonutrients. Be aware that there are many inferior greens products in the marketplace with cheap fillers and chemical flavorings. The source is everything. With such widespread cheating going on in the supplement industry, only careful testing of each source of greens will guarantee that the user is getting a positive benefit rather than a negative benefit from the greens they are taking.

One manufacturer recently reported that when he tested a raw material source of asparagus extract (often used in greens formulas), he found 90% of it was hay! That's right, just cheap hay.

There are many different grades and species of plants and herbs that may be used to make a greens product. Be sure the product you are using is made from grade 10 plants and herbs, the highest grade available. Grade 10 herbs and grasses are grown in rich soil in pure country air, five or more miles away from any road and car exhaust toxins. After harvest, they should be low-temperature, air-dried for maximum retention of phytonutrient activity, then shipped in air-tight containers. Be sure the greens product you use has never been fumigated, irradiated (up to 70% of herbs now coming into the U.S. are being irradiated), solvent-extracted (a process that requires toxic chemicals), or heat-damaged. Check to be sure the plants and herbs are certified organic, non-hybrid sources from outside the U.S. (American plants and herbs are almost guaranteed to be hybrids as well as heavily pesticided and highly heated.) The processing makes the difference as to whether the greens product really works or not.

Supplement # 3: Essential Fatty Acids

As Harvey Diamond points out in his book, Fit For Life, essential fatty acids are essential for life! Essential fatty acids are important for the entire body: brain, heart, and immune system development. EFAs stimulate fat digesting enzymes, keep our joints supple, our bones strong, and our skin smooth and velvety.

The best essential fatty acid nutrient supplement products must be from premier-quality, organic oils. The best source oils are Moroccan olive oil, flax oil, sesame oil, and borage oil. These fresh, unrefined organic oils provide ideal, healthful ratios of GLA (gamma-linolenic acid), linoleic acid, and omega-3, 6, and 9 essential fatty acids. These oils are processed without heat (cold-pressed) and are solvent and pesticide free.

If you have been eating a diet of acidic foods, and your pH is 6.2 or below, cut back on the "bad oils" such as fried foods, and hydrogenated oils (as found in French fries, chips, processed breads, cookies, pastries, bagels, etc.) and get an "oil change" so you can start balancing your oils. The good EFA oils will actually help to clean out the "bad oils" you eat.

Balance your pH and maximize your life energy by eating more alkaline raw fruits and vegetables and less acid foods such as meats, dairy, and processed foods. And for additional help, balance your pH with the supplements outlined above. We invite you to see for yourself the life-changing potential of maintaining a proper pH!
